W Taipei Exclusive Seafood Night

Seafood feasts truly test a chef’s skill – they must delicately balance removing any fishiness while preserving the unique flavors of the sea. It’s been a while since I’ve had a lavish meal, so today, my family and I are enjoying a relaxed afternoon getaway at W Taipei. We started by visiting the sauna on the 11th floor, and now we’re heading to “the Kitchen table” on the 10th floor.

Growing up by the coast, I got pretty picky about seafood, always preferring fresh, locally caught fish, shrimp, and crab over frozen varieties

“The Fish Market” is all about fresh seafood, prepared using various techniques like shucking, slicing, dicing, simmering, and wood-grilling. It’s like taking a culinary trip with dishes ranging from freshly shucked oysters to charcoal-grilled lobster. Everyone in the family picked out a different main course from the menu.

Due to the pandemic, the self-service buffet is now table service. Customers select their courses from the menu, and servers bring them out in order.

The set meal includes a glass of choice wine or spirits, like the 2020 Wolf Blass Bilyara Shiraz from Australia. It’s smooth with hints of black cherries and sweet vanilla, perfect with red meat. If you prefer, there are also non-alcoholic options available.

The second option is the 2020 Premier Selection Chardonnay. Sipping on a little wine beforehand sets the mood and relaxes you. They both go down smoothly and pair well with your meal.

Salmon prices are skyrocketing, so having a piece of this beautifully colored salmon is a real treat. It’s paired with salmon roe, tangy French cream, and potatoes that are soft yet crispy. The addition of horseradish adds a surprising balance.

Served with slices of sashimi and a tangy-sweet Mexican salsa, for a taste of pure ocean freshness!

Refreshing and healthy seafood salad with scallops, citrus, and black truffle. Each bite is packed with juicy crab meat, a true delight!

They provide metal tongs for easy crab meat extraction, ensuring freshness. The pre-seasoned miso sauce highlights the crab’s unique flavor, eliminating the need for additional dipping sauces.

The soup is packed with the essence of whole shrimp, shell and all. Honestly, with some bread and the earlier scallop salad, it’s a meal in itself.

Very rich, each sip is a nourishing taste of lobster goodness. We can taste the shrimp in every mouthful.

Hao doesn’t like shrimp, so we ordered the restaurant’s special farmer’s vegetable soup instead. It’s made with tomatoes, zucchinis, carrots, onions, and celery, giving it a hearty countryside flavor.

Grilled salmon with a special sauce, served alongside steamed Chinese broccoli. It’s like a twist on braised eel, but with robust salmon flavors—a creative fusion dish.

Roasting fragrant veggies with olive oil, then pairing them with fish, is truly magical. This dish, with its red pepper nut sauce and dusted olives, is delightful, although I wish there was more sauce.

After all, it’s seafood night, so maybe skipping the meat is the way to go. Not that the steak isn’t tasty, but among all the seafood, this decent steak seems a bit ordinary. Luckily, it’s saved by the tangy tomato-flavored sauce.

The huge Boston lobster is divided into three parts and grilled with Parmesan cheese and special sauce for maximum flavor.

This dish is voted as the favorite by Hao. It’s savory and sweet, with flavorful roasted potatoes and a hint of lemon tanginess. Who wouldn’t love it?

Hollywood celebrities on Instagram are showing a trend for bean-based dishes, especially salads with chickpeas or peas. This salad features tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, and three bean varieties, all drizzled with vinaigrette and honey for a refreshing taste.

I opted for the least sweet dessert as the ending. It’s almost like eating strawberries. Each one is fresh and plump, soaked in brandy for a delightful touch of liqueur!

Made with fresh fruit as the base, these smoothies are healthy and almost entirely free from additives.

Creamy cheesecake topped with walnut tart, complemented by lemon cream and caramel.

With the lemon tart by our side, our family savored every moment of the seafood feast. Can’t wait to come back for my birthday!
