むてっぽう Mutepo Ramen Ikebukuro

Ikebukuro, known for its abundance of incredibly popular ramen shops, happens to be where my company always arranges my accommodations during business trips. As a result, I’ve meticulously compiled a list of numerous ramen spots extending all the way from the station vicinity to Sunshine City Prince.

Metropolitan, located near the southeast exit, takes center stage in this article. It has introduced a renowned and daring ramen shop from Toyama, which has been voted the No. 3 most popular eatery! Their signature miso ramen is priced at 730 yen per bowl.

むてっぽう (Mutepo) , might be unfamiliar to Taiwanese locals, but its origins trace back to Toyama, Japan. Interestingly, it seems that the number of their branches is expanding recently.

Nestled in the bustling heart of Ikebukuro’s prime district, this shop boasts a compact interior. To be precise, it’s a case of “small but mighty,” with all essential features neatly packed into its rectangular layout.

For a mere 30 yen, a semi-soft-boiled egg is nestled within chicken bones and simmered to perfection in a rich, natural dashi broth.

We ordered the signature miso ramen. The broth, a closely guarded secret from Shikoku, features a base of barley and is further enriched with 52 meticulously selected ingredients. All of this goodness is aged in walnut wood, resulting in a rich and complex miso flavor.

To enhance this meal, we added two semi-soft-boiled eggs, complemented by a rich broth. With this protein-packed combination, our dining experience is truly satisfying.

The broth has a subtle hint reminiscent of sipping chicken sesame oil soup, yet it lacks the rice wine undertones found in Taiwanese chicken sesame oil soup. The sesame oil flavor is also more delicate. In truth, it’s a taste that defies easy description—a satisfying and nourishing sensation.

Recently, a Japanese television program featured a video introducing a ramen shop that has rapidly gained popularity in Japan. You can watch the video ( Click the picture above )to learn more about this rising star in the ramen scene!
