Premier Korean Beef BBQ in Seoul

Thanks to our friend’s guidance, we had the chance to taste the premium Korean barbecue in Gangnam district. A restaurant that combines Japanese yakiniku and izakaya with Korean charcoal-grilled meat has become very popular in Seoul recently. One of the top choices for premium meat grilling is GOSU.

Looking for the ultimate meat feast in Seoul’s fancy Gangnam area? “GOSU The Premium Meat Restaurant” is the go-to spot! Whether you’re craving Japanese yakiniku or Korean barbecue, this place has got you covered. Just make sure to book your table at least 3 days ahead!

The restaurant is split into two floors. The first floor has small tables perfect for 2 to 4 guests, while the second floor is ideal for larger groups of 6 to 12 people in private booths. Our table is on the second floor.

It’s said that Japanese yakiniku has its origins from Genghis Khan, while another source is the Korean-style bulgogi (불고기). The grilling method involves placing thin slices of meat on a charcoal grill and dipping them in soy sauce before eating.

One saying was tht Korean immigrants brought their culinary customs, including “Chosun-style” barbecue, to Japan. Many of these immigrants reside near Osaka.

Pairing our barbecue with some traditional Korean liquor like “Jinro Soju” adds an authentic touch to the dining experience. That’s the real deal for enjoying barbecue in Korea!

In Korea, a small bottle of “Jinro” typically costs about the same as a bottle of sparkling water when dining out. It’s an affordable and popular choice to accompany your meal.

And, don’t forget about the must-try Korean-style salad made from fresh hydroponic vegetables directly sourced from Dongdaemun Market. This tangy and spicy salad features garlic, onions, scallions, garlic chives, black fungus, mung beans, along with pickled green peppers and Korean chili sauce.

Korean kimchi always comes in various styles, and the taste varies depending on the restaurant’s techniques. Every restaurant in Korea serves kimchi with a unique flavor.

GOSU uses gas-controlled charcoal fire and a powerful smoke extractor hood above to ensure a smoke-free environment.

As a steak lover, I couldn’t resist ordering two premium steaks a la carte. The one pictured below is the “Premium Black Hanwoo Beef,” which can only be enjoyed locally in Korea .

Due to the varying thickness of steaks and the difficulty in determining the perfect grilling time, especially for premium cuts, the servers offer expert grilling services to ensure each steak is cooked to perfection.

Three premium salts available for pairing with your steak: ‘Flower of Salt’, ‘Japanese Wasabi Salt’, and ‘French Mustard Pepper Salt’.

Following that, we opted for the ‘Australian Wagyu Sirloin’, which, once grilled, exuded a rich aroma of rendered fat. Comparable in juiciness and flavor to the Korean beef, the original beef flavor required only a dash of salt to accentuate its delicious taste.

At “GOSU,” they marinate the original Iberico pork after you order. For example, with the “salt sauce,” they mix the secret salt sauce with spring onions and white sesame seeds before marinating the meat slices briefly. This method brings out the meat’s deliciousness without masking its original flavor.

Korean barbecue restaurants often serve kimchi made with perilla leaves. Eating a bite of perilla leaf along with the grilled meat is a common practice.

The table sauces include dipping sauce, seaweed salt, and Korean miso.

In Korea, the taste of the kimchi served with grilled meat is quite different from the pickled vegetables typically enjoyed by Japanese.

We ordered another plate of mixed grilled vegetables, including green peppers, zucchinis, and mushrooms.

This Korean stone pot grilled cheese rice is incredibly satisfying. Even though I was already pretty full, ever since I tried it at that spicy chicken stir-fry joint last time, I’ve been totally hooked on it.
