Kudanshita is a place in Tokyo where everything feels very Japanese, from the way it looks to the food. It’s a fancy area near the Emperor’s Palace where rich people live.

A book’s title in Japanese translates to “Why Don’t People Living Near the Imperial Palace Get Fat?” One reason is that most people living here are wealthy or have carefree lives, so they can jog along the palace’s moat every day.

Every time my colleague and I go on a business trip to Tokyo, we make sure to visit Kudanshita. This station is home to several of Japan’s oldest and most prestigious publishing houses.

Whether traveling for business or pleasure, I was always looking forward to walking along this approximately 700-meter-long trail, all the way to the destination.

When you come to Kudanshita Station and walk by the Imperial Palace’s moat, you’ll find one of the best places in Tokyo to enjoy the cherry blossoms! Each year, the flower viewing is incredibly popular.

As soon as you come out of the Kudanshita Station on the Shinjuku subway line, you’ll see crowds of people there to see the cherry blossoms. The whole green path is tinted with a soft pink color.

Take it easy and savor this time. It’s brief, but we can remember it forever. They make the whole area pink and look like a paradise with feathers made of cherry blossoms.

You can get there by walking for 5 minutes from exit 2 of Kudanshita Station on the Tokyo Metro, or from exit 5 of Hanzomon Station on the Tokyo Metro.
