Located on the 47th floor of Taipei’s Breeze Nanshan, Smith & Wollensky is celebrated as Asia’s first, accessible via a dedicated sky elevator. As you enter through its distinctive green doors, it feels like stepping into the romantic setting frequented by the characters from HBO’s “Sex and the City.” It’s also reminiscent of scenes from “The Devil Wears Prada,” where the finest steaks were meticulously chosen by Miranda. Additionally, it’s been the venue for charity dinners hosted by renowned investor Warren Buffett.
Smith & Wollensky Taipei: Website
Here on this floor, we can get a view of Taipei 101 . As soon as you walk in, there’s a small lobby area with some art installations, separating the bar from the dining area.
The bar area operates on its own schedule. It opens up later than the dining hours, giving you a chance to soak in Taipei’s night view.
Brioche
The brioche bread is rich in buttery aroma, soft and delicate in texture, with a fluffy feel. It comes with a side of butter for dipping. However, during the bread-making process, a generous amount of butter is kneaded in with a touch of sea salt, giving it a unique flavor.
Wollensky Salad
This salad stands out for its homemade sweet and tangy dressing, which is refreshing and appetizing, especially when paired with thick-cut bacon. It’s my first time having such hearty chunks of bacon on a salad— the savory, chewy bacon, combined with the crisp romaine lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms, and potatoes, is delicious and satisfying.
Today’s Soup is Potato Corn Chowder. Feeling full, I reminded myself to hold off on the Brioche for now so I can save room for the steak coming up next.
The appetizers include sautéed zucchini, creamy cheese baked potatoes, oven-roasted king oyster mushrooms, and asparagus. The zucchini is pan-fried with olive oil until golden, retaining its crispness and moisture. It’s sprinkled with pine nuts and garnished with red bell peppers, giving it a slightly acidic flavor. I’m already feeling stuffed even before getting to the main course!
The main course is here! It’s an 8-ounce ribeye steak cooked just right! It’s juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. The steak has a slight char on the outside but no blood inside. It comes with crispy green beans and oven-roasted mushrooms on the side.
Dessert – Chocolate Mousse Cake
Even sofull, I can’t miss out on this signature dessert – the Chocolate Mousse Cake. It’s small but incredibly satisfying!
